eFax integration with AcidImage Pro

If you are an eFax user, you can receive and view your faxes on your Palm OS Handheld. Normally, on a desktop computer, eFax Messenger software is required to open and view fax attachments. On your handheld, there is no Palm OS version of eFax Messenger, but you can use AcidImage Pro in place of eFax Messenger to open and view your faxes. No eFax-specific software is required on your handheld, just AcidImage Pro.

Configuring eFax to work with AcidImage Pro

eFax usually sends fax attachments with the file extension "efx". This file format is a proprietary eFax format that AcidImage Pro doesn't understand. However, you can set the preferences in your eFax account to send your faxes in TIFF format with the file extension "TIF". AcidImage Pro can then view your eFax facsimile email attachments.

Log In to your eFax Account

The settings described here are all specific to your eFax account, so they all have to be done from the eFax website. The login screens and option screens on this page are what you will see when you are changing these settings in your eFax account. Go to the eFax website and log in with your eFax phone number and PIN. If you forgot your PIN, you can have the eFax website email it to you easily. Once you are logged in, you can change the preferences for your eFax account and set it to send images in TIF format.

Click on Preferences, then Fax Options

Once you are logged into your eFax account, click on "Preferences" on the right side of the page. The preferences selection will expand, showing the various options pages that are available. Click "Fax Options". We're almost there...

Change Fax File Format to TIF

The Fax File Format will probably be set to the default of "EFX". Change this setting to "TIF", and then click on the "Update" button to save the changes. eFax will then send your faxes in TIF format instead of eFax format. The file sizes will be the same, and you will still be able to open your faxes on your desktop computer.

Now enjoy your faxes!

Now that your faxes are being sent in TIF format, you can view them on your Palm OS handheld. Many email clients, like SnapperMail, integrate directly with AcidImage Pro so you can view an attachment just by tapping on it, with all of the anti-aliased zooming, panning, scrolling and rotation options available in AcidImage Pro.

All pages of the fax will be available - just press the page down button (or "down" on a 5-way navigator) to view subsequent pages. Press up to view previous pages.
